1. There is no British, European or International Standard in respect of Radio Fire Alarm systems!  BS5839 – 1 : 2002 is a Code of Practice, which recommends compliance with LPCB – LPS 1257, however, neither of the two established commercial Radio system suppliers have had their systems certified!
  2. BS5839 Part 6 states that radio interlinking between smoke alarms is acceptable and no standard of performance is specified!
  3. Building Regs – Approved Doc B states that radio interlinking between smoke alarms is acceptable and no standard of performance is specified!
  4. BS5839 – 1 : 2002, BS5839 Part 6 and Building Regs – Approved Doc B are Codes of Practice and Recommendations, which state that alternative solutions and variations are acceptable provided they are agreed as acceptable by the Competent Designer, Installer and End User of the system and in the case of Building Regs meet the overall requirements or objective!
  5. The HD3000 system and associated devices does not comply strictly with BS5839 – 1 : 2002. It falls into a single system Grade within BS5839 Part 6 or Building Regs – Approved Doc B but it could be considered as an acceptable alternative solution or agreed variation for individual case by case risk assessments.
  6. The HD detectors (primary means of fire detection and alarm) have been third party certified by VdS (the German equivalent to LPCB) to DIN 14602 (Equivalent to the current BSEN standard for Residential Smoke Alarms).
  7. The primary Fire Detection devices HD3000 are third party certified, Self-contained Alarms and Radio interlinking is acceptable.
  8. Whilst the HD3000 system does not comply with the radio integrity monitoring recommended in BS5839 – 1 : 2002 it does exceed Building Regs – Approved Doc B and BS5839 Part 6 for Smoke Alarms.  The radio integrity is fault monitored every 8 hours between each device and the base station – HD3000 and in the event of three consecutive failures to communicate a fault condition is registered at the panel.
  9. Battery power is acceptable for Smoke Detectors.
  10. The HD3000 central control and monitoring panel is mains powered with battery back up as per a BS5839 Part 6 GRADE C system.
