Don't miss out on funds to fight crime!! - 18-September-2009

Time is running out for small businesses to take advantage of a £5million grant scheme to enable them to fund security measures to fight crime.

Securi-Guard, the South West’s leading supplier of fire and security solutions, is urging retailers and other small businesses to apply for the Government funding, before the deadline of September 30.

The Home Office Small Retailers Grant Fund, launched last month, offers up to £3,000 in funding for a variety of security measures that small businesses can take to combat crime.

Grants can be used to buy security devices such as intruder alarms and also help fund CCTV equipment, while businesses in other areas, such as a parade of shops, can even apply for funding up to £50,000 to improve a neighbourhood with landscaping or additional lighting.

Securi-Guard, based in Estover, Plymouth, is one of the country’s leading fire and security solutions specialists, offering a whole range of services to help businesses, organisations and individuals combat the threat of crime.

As well as intruder/fire alarms and door entry systems, the company also monitors CCTV, vehicle tracking devices and lone worker alarms from its state of the Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) in Plymouth, the largest west of Bristol.

Scott Boyd, Managing Director (Operations) at Securi-Guard said: “The Government has quite rightly recognised the security risk to small businesses and retailers from shoplifters, burglars and other forms of crime.

“We would urge retailers in Plymouth and across the region to explore their eligibility for these grants before the deadline and we would be happy to provide them with any advice and practical assistance in ensuring their premises are protected.”

The Home Office has also set up an online security questionnaire developed by crime prevention experts to enable businesses to check how secure their operation is.

It also offers practical advice on how to improve security and the relevant organisations to contact for more help.

Home Office Minister Alan Campbell said the Government was committed to working with industry and police to tackle the crimes that affect them.

“Small businesses play a vital role in our communities and I am determined to ensure that they are not taken advantage of during these hard economic times,” said Mr Campbell.
